The Camiño route often forks and gives you the choice of a more direct, but more boring path often along a main road. Today I detoured to go on a longer path, but one that was away from the main road and passed through more villages. It has been 25km to Astorga today.
The shin splints are virtually gone now. I’ve been going a lot faster. Stupid me has developed a different problem now. I’ve spent most of the trip blister free but now I have one forming where the big toe meets it’s nail on my right foot, and another between toes on the left foot.
I’m a bit annoyed with myself for losing my earbud headphones back at the León hostel. I’ve contacted them but heard nothing back so far. Oh well.
The hills / mountains have been beckoning on the horizon for a few days now and they draw ever closer, lying to the north and the west. I’m looking forward to more interesting views again. Soon there will be the first of the last two significant climbs to compete with the Pyrenees climb at the very beginning.
Again, I’ve seen more stork nests. They love setting up home on these bell towers.
The hanging effigies of pilgrims looks a bit creepy to me. I know it’s an attempt to be frindly, but my imagination can’t help but think they look like warnings of what could happen to you if you aren’t careful 😁
