Resting in Logroño, Injuries Make Themselves Known

Day off in Logroño

Last night I had dinner with Bill from Atlanta, Markus from Germany and Vincenzina from Italy. All three definitely representative of their nationalies (the better aspects of).

Had an anchovy and pepper starter that was great. Was a bit disappointed by the Riojan style cod. The sauce was good, but you could have bounced the cod off the wall and been struck full force in the face on the rebound.

The walk back to my accommodation made it clear that my shin has been troubling me.

Had a welcome lie in and didn’t emerge from my room until early afternoon. I’ve been googling “shin splints” and I think I’m getting the warning signs. I took an Ibuprofen that Janet, the older woman from the beginning of my journey gave me 2 of.

I’ve visited a pharmacy and bought some more. Rest is the only real cure. Tomorrow’s hike is only going to be 12km. With the accommodation booked, there is no real hurry other than to get there before a 2pm thunderstorm.

My body is definitely giving me the message to slow down. It turns out, there are consequences to powering through long distance hikes with a loaded backpack, untrained.
